B lab Buildlab

The B.E. & W.R. Miller BuildLab, designed by Professor Rocco Ceo AIA, provides a home for the design/build program where students execute an architectural project from beginning to end in a safe and properly equipped environment. The groundbreaking ceremony for the BuildLab was held in June 2016 and, though the official dedication ceremony is slated for March 2018, the space is currently open and being used by students. As part of the hands-on learning process, the students are tasked with completing the furnishings and interior and exterior details of the open-air building, which has a 38-foot by 38-foot concrete frame with 17.5-feet-high ceilings.

The BuildLab is made possible through the generosity of several donors to the BuildLab program and through the naming gift by UM Alum Bob Miller, Chairman of First Florida Construction. Mr. Miller has most recently joined the Board of the School of Architecture Construction Management program to continue to help students build a bridge between design and construction.

You can learn more about the BuildLab in this UM News Special Report.
