Applying to the Rome Program

Acceptance to the Rome program is based on grade point average, a portfolio and an interview upon request. All applications are to be submitted through the University of Miami Study Abroad Portal no later than January 15, 2024. The portal address and instructions will be provided.

Applying for the Rome Scholarship

Limited scholarship awards are available and are need-based. If you are interested in applying for a Rome Scholarship Award, please submit a letter of need expressing your situation and also include a list of all the current sources of aid you are receiving. C Numbers and names must be listed at the top of the letter. This letter can be emailed to the Rome Director, Carmen Guerrero, once you receive confirmation that you have been accepted. The Rome Scholarship Awards will be applied towards your student account. More detail about the deadline for these letters will be provided at a later date.

Program Fees

A fee in the amount of $3,000.00 per student will be collected by the University’s central administration. This charge will be reflected in the student’s Canelink account.  This fee not only secures your position in the Program, but also funds all of the expenses related to the field trips and site visits included in the Rome curriculum. The fee will cover each student’s transportation, lodging and entrance tickets during both day and overnight field trips. Urban metro/bus/tram  tickets are not included in this fee. 

As a Rome student, the following University fees will be waived from the student accounts:

  • Activity Fee
  • Student Center Complex Fee
  • Wellness Center Fee
  • Student Health
  • Counseling Centers Fee
  • Athletic Fee

    Credit Card Information

    The School of Architecture does not have, under any circumstances, access to your credit card information. Your credit card information is used to process your fee payment and will not be used for any other purposes. Credit card information is transmitted through, but is not stored, on a web-enabled server. Please be aware your credit card will be billed from our third-party service provider Nelnet Campus Commerce, USA

    Refunds

    The Rome Program is committed to providing an enriching and immersive experience for all participants. We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, necessitating a request for a refund. This policy outlines the conditions and procedures for requesting refunds.

    Eligibility for Rome Program Fee Refund

    Refunds are granted only under the following verifiable circumstances:

    1. Medical Emergencies: A serious illness or injury, verified by a licensed medical professional, that prevents the student from participating in the program.
    2. Family Emergencies: Significant family issues, such as the death or serious illness of an immediate family member, which require the student's presence.

    Request Process:
    1. Documentation: Students must provide official documentation to substantiate their claim. This includes medical certificates for health-related issues and relevant documentation for family emergencies.
    2. Submission: Refund requests and supporting documentation must be submitted in writing to the Program Director, Carmen Guerrero.
    3. Deadline: Requests must be submitted within 2 days of the occurrence of the emergency situation.
