Program Director | Smart Cities Dean| School of Architecture
In addition to his role as Program Director of Smart Cities, Dr. Rodolphe el-Khoury is Dean of the University of Miami School of Architecture. He was Canada Research Chair at the University of Toronto, Head of Architecture at California College of the Arts, and Associate Professor at Harvard Graduate School of Design. He also taught at Columbia University, Rhode Island School of Design, and Princeton University, and has had Visiting Professor appointments at MIT, University of Hong Kong, and Rice University (Cullinen Visiting Chair).
Director | Software Engineering
Christopher C. Mader joined the University of Miami Center for Computational Science in 2007 as Director of the Software Engineering core. Mr. Mader has been developing software systems for scientific applications, and leading development teams for over 15 years at a number of research organizations including: Stanford University, The Institute for Genomic Research (now J. Craig Venter Institute), and The Scripps Research Institute, as well as a variety of commercial organizations. His interests include the development of service-oriented architectures and text mining.
CLIR Postdoctoral Fellow
Tim Norris received his Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz. During his two-year fellowship at the University of Miami, he will assist in building awareness of and educating the University's research communities in current best practices in data preservation and management planning, including documentation and metadata standards. He will participate in an environmental scan of research data management needs across the University's schools and colleges; work with relevant staff across units in the development of a data management service focusing mainly on building data resources such as a registry; sharing research experience and expertise with the Libraries' Education and Outreach department; and working collaboratively with university staff to develop outreach and training strategies for faculty and administrators.
Director of Bachelor of Architecture, Associate Professor in Practice
Jaime Correa is the Director of the Undergraduate Program, an Associate Professor in Practice, and the former Director of the Master of Urban Design (aka: Suburb and Town Design) at the School of Architecture of the University of Miami (position held from 1996 to 2014) where he was also the Knight Professor in Community Building. He currently teaches design, theory, and representation in the Miami and Rome programs of the University of Miami.
Assistant Professor | Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering
He received my PhD in 2012 from Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) for the design of an active deployable tensegrity structure. From 2012 to 2014, He joined Princeton University as Postdoctoral Researcher for the Form-Finding Lab. Since January 2015, he is an Assistant Professor at Department of Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering at the University of Miami. His research interests include tensegrity structures; adaptive, sensory and active structures; form finding and analysis of structures; structural design and optimization; space engineering and construction; resilience and sustainability; and computer-aided engineering.
Associate Scientist | Software Engineering
Dr. Amin Sarafraz joined the Software Engineering group at the University of Miami Center for Computational Science in 2012. He received his PhD in civil engineering from the University of Miami in 2012. During his graduate studies, he was part of several multi-disciplinary projects. Amin’s graduate work involved applications of computer vision in civil engineering, including underwater imaging, image enhancement in scattering media, 3D reconstruction, and non-destructive testing. While pursuing the doctoral degree, he was in charge of image analysis for autism research project in the Infant Development Lab at Florida International University. His main research interests include photogrammetry, image processing, computer vision, and pattern recognition.
