Dr. John Onyango joined the School of Architecture faculty this September where he is now teaching Materials and Methods. A native of Kenya, Onyango has had wide-ranging experience in studying and teaching architecture in several countries throughout the world. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nairobi, and his master’s from Notre Dame University. He was a lecturer at the United Arab Emirates University for four years, and a post-graduate student at the Prince of Wales’ Institute of Architecture in London. He was a doctoral researcher at the University of Glasgow. The last three years were spent teaching in the School of Planning Architecture and Civil Engineering at Queens University, Belfast, Northern Ireland. His field of interest and research is Sustainable Architecture and Urban Design and Sustainable Construction Practices and Technology. Since arriving at the University of Miami School of Architecture, he has been pursuing his work in sustainable design, engaging faculty members in the College of Engineering and the Office of Civic & Community Engagement.
