Die schöne Müllerin (The Beautiful Maid of the Mill) on poems by Wilhelm Müller, is one of Franz Schubert’s most important works. And this song cycle is the earliest extended one of its kind to be widely performed. The 20 songs of this masterpiece move from cheerful optimism to despondency and tragedy. Included in this performance will be readings of five poems from Müller’s “Die schöne Müllerin” that Schubert chose not to set to music. These poems give added insight into not only the young miller of the story, but to the poet and composer as well. Join Frost School of Music faculty members Tony Boutté (tenor) and Frank Cooper (narrator), and Master of Music candidate Geoffrey Loff (piano) in the beautiful and acoustically superb Glasgow Hall for what will be a moving evening of poetry and song.
