SOA’s Rome Program Students Welcome University’s URome Students
The University of Miami’s new URome Program and its first group of 23 students visited with the School of Architecture’s Rome Program students in January. The total group of 45, shown here during a field trip to Rome’s sports complex Foro Italico, was led by Senior Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education Dr. William Green and School of Architecture Rome Program Director Carmen Guerrero (at top of photo). URome, the newest of UM’s Semester-on-Location programs, is sponsored by the Department of Religious Studies and conducted in collaboration with the American University of Rome (AUR). URome provides students with a superb opportunity to study abroad in one of Europe’s oldest and most exciting cities. AUR’s campus is located on top of the Janiculum, Rome’s highest hill, offering a spectacular view of the city and ready access to Trastevere, one of Rome’s most vibrant districts. The School of Architecture looks forward to sharing highlights of the city with URome students each time a new group arrives. MAXXI
Student Work Exhibited in Rome Museum
The School of Architecture will have a collection of models and drawings on exhibit in the new MAXXI museum in Rome starting May 30. The School’s student work, produced under the direction of Professor Carmen Guerrero in her courses on Italian Modernism, will be displayed in one of five inaugural exhibits entitled Luigi Moretti Architetto from Rationalism to the Informal. This collection has played a valuable role in the preservation of the work of Architect Luigi Moretti, and the exhibit opening is a significant curatorial event for researchers of modern architecture in Europe. Professor Guerrero has led her students in the research of Moretti for over three years and has exhibited their work in Rome, Switzerland and Miami. The MAXXI museum, one of the few contemporary projects in the City of Rome, is designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid.
