Art Exhibit by UM Professor Tom Spain Draws Fans and Friends to Coral Gables Museum

Architect and artist Thomas A. Spain is a master visual interpreter of architectural structures and places. This exhibit presents over 60 pencil, pen and ink, watercolor and chalk pastel drawings spanning 32 years, featuring selections from six distinct series of works.

SOA with Professor John Onyango to Host Major International Conference on Climate Change and Housing

ZEMCH 2013 International Conference – October 30 through November 1, 2013 aims to establish an intellectual forum of interactive discussion on design, production and marketing issues surrounding the delivery of low to zero energy/CO2 emission mass-customization homes being built in developed and developing countries. The conference is open to any stakeholders who are involved in housing research, business, teaching, and policy.

The Italian Ministry of Education Awards Grant to Carmen Guerrero

We are happy to announce that Professor Carmen Guerrero has been awarded a grant by the Ministry of Education in Italy. In September of 2012, The Italian Ministry of Education issued a call for proposals for projects in the artistic disciplines (art, architecture, music, etc) that would support exchanges between foreign university programs and those in southern Italy. Out of the 350 proposals received, 113 projects will be financed. Carmen’s proposal titled Mediterranean Architecture in the United States: Coral Gables as Case Study, is one of the 113 projects that will be funded.

SOA Professor Wins 2013 Dawntown Worldwide Competition

“Up DownTown,” the 2013 Dawntown Design/Build Competition winning entry by School of Architecture Assistant Professor Jacob Brillhart and Visiting Professor Manuel Clavel-Rojo (Murcia, Spain), is now on exhibit at the History Miami Museum.

The University Creates the School of Architecture’s First Professorship
March 18th, 2013 —
The University has announced the Matheson Distinguished Professorship in Architecture. The Matheson family, its Miami members and a sizable delegation from Virginia, celebrated the event at the President’s new house on the evening of February 27th. This represents a continuing recognition of Malcolm Matheson’s gift of his Old Cutler Road house to the University where University presidents have lived for many years.
