Faculty members Roberto Behar and Rosario Marquardt Publish Book on “M”

December 15th, 2011 — The book “M” tells the story of the design and construction of what has been called “the biggest M in the world” through words, drawings, models and photographs. It is the first volume of R & R Studios incomplete works. The giant “Red M” was designed as a piece of public art in 1996 out of concrete and mixed media. It serves as an entranceway to the Riverwalk Metromover station in Downtown Miami and is located in front of the turnstiles on the east side of station. It refers historically to subway and other transit entrances with decorative elements, such as a clock and lighting and creates an intimate scale within the station’s lofty eight-story structure. According to Behar and Marquardt’s concept of the piece, the “Red M” stands for Miami, Magic, Metro, Mover and as a landmark in a land of immigrants. It is considered one of the most recognized pieces in Miami-Dade County’s collection of Art in Public Places. Visit http://www.miamidade.gov/publicart/photo-mover-riverwalk-rr.asp
