Faculty Member Dr. Richard John Edits “The Classicist” No. 9

January 25th, 2012 — This scholarly journal produced by the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America is now in its ninth issue and continues to serve as an inspiration for professionals, academics, and enthusiasts alike. This volume is richly illustrated with drawings, photographs, renderings, watercolors and details in full color. Contributions include scholarly articles by Jean-Francois Lejeune on Schinkel’s designs for urban houses, Sam Roche on Beaux-Arts principles in the work of Paul Cret and Louis Kahn, and Kyle Dugdale on the work of Demetri Porphyrios. Other essays include Scott Merrill on contemporary practice, Jacob Brillhart on “Drawing in the Digital Age”, and Michael Lykoudis on “Education and the Practice of Architecture” at Notre Dame. In addition to illustrating projects by University of Miami students, the work of other schools is also represented through student portfolios from Georgia Tech, Yale, Judson, the Grand Central Academy, and ICA&A. A wide range of professional work is represented in portfolios which include work by Quinlan and Francis Terry, Gil Schafer, Ferguson & Shamamian, Peter Pennoyer Architects, David Harlan, and John Simpson Associates.
