CUCD’s 2nd Annual CAN-struction Competition and Thanksgiving Food Drive

October 14th, 2009 — The Center for Urban and Community Design (CUCD) will sponsor and organize the second annual “Canstruction” design/build competition in which students, departments and staff campus-wide can donate food cans and also participate in building structures out of cans on Friday, November 6, from 12 noon to 2:30 pm at the School of Architecture courtyard, 1223 Dickinson Drive, Coral Gables Campus. The charitable event is being presented in partnership with the Coral Gables Museum (275 Giralda Avenue) which is holding a Canstruction competition November 6 through 8. Teams may bring their donation of cans to the event or drop them off ahead of time inside the School of Architecture’s main office, computer lab and lecture hall. Other locations include the residence halls. Those who wish to solely contribute to the food drive may use the same drop-off areas or contact the CUCD office to arrange pick-up. Cans will be distributed evenly based on the number of teams registered. After the competition, all cans will be donated to local families in need through Camillus House. The panel of jurors includes Dean Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk; Sonia Chao, Director of the CUCD; Stephen Klindt, Director of the Coral Gables Museum; Mike Brazlavsky, Executive Director of AIA Miami; Natividad Soto, President of AIA Miami; and Karen Mahar, Director of Camillus House.
